The Spell checker » Dictionary branch of Settings allows you to configure the dictionary UltraEdit uses for spell checking.

Windows 8 and later

On all versions of Windows 8 and later, the Windows system spell checker is used for spell checking in UltraEdit. In order to add and remove languages for the spell checker in UltraEdit / UEStudio, you would need to add or remove those languages through the "Region & language" section of Windows Settings (more information). All languages installed on your system are available for selection as dictionaries here in the Dictionary list on the left.

Windows 7

Windows 7 does not include native spell checking. To accommodate spell checking on Windows 7, UltraEdit / UEStudio install Aspell, a third party library for spell checking. By default, the executable for Aspell is located in the \Aspell\bin\ subdirectory of the main installation directory. You can add dictionaries to Aspell by downloading them from our site and following these steps:

  1. Run the dictionary installer (.msi) to a custom location
  2. From the files the installer extracts, move the .dat file to the \GNU\aspell\data directory in the UltraEdit installation folder
  3. From the files the installer extracts, move the .multi, .rws, and .alias files to the \GNU\aspell\dict directory in the UltraEdit installation folder

After a restart of UltraEdit, the newly installed directory should then be available for selection in the Dictionary list on the left.

Added words

You can add and remove custom words to the selected dictionary. Any added word will not be flagged as a misspelling by the spell checker. To add a custom word, use the Add button in the Spell check dialog when an unrecognized word is highlighted, or type the word to be added at the top of the list here and click Add. To remove an added word, simply select it in the list here and click Remove.
