You can backup and restore your UltraEdit / UEStudio settings and customizations via the Backup / restore user customizations option in the "Configure" section of the Advanced tab. You can backup settings in the Backup tab and restore backed-up settings from the backup file in the Restore tab.

Backup settings

The Backup tab has the following options.

Backup to directory
This is the directory that the backup archive will be saved to. Use the Browse button to open a folder browser where you can browse to and select the folder to contain the backup.

To backup
This is the list of all files stored in your configuration directory (which is normally %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UltraEdit or %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UEStudio). In general, to backup all of your settings, it's recommended to check everything in this dialog to ensure everything is backed up and restored. The list contains the following groups of customizations.

  • Ribbons
This is your ribbon configuration including all customizations.
  • Layout and menu/toolbar customizations
These are your layouts, including arrangement of dockable windows and any toolbar customizations in menu / tooblar mode (if you have them).
  • User themes
These are any custom themes you've added.
  • Templates
These are your templates, organized by template group.
  • Wordfiles
These are your wordfiles, including the defaults and any extras you may have added.
  • Others
This "catch all" group includes all other configurations files, including but not limited to:
    • INI file (where most settings and configurations are stored)
    • FTP accounts
    • Keyboard shortcuts
    • Column markers
    • Taglist
    • SSH / telnet logs
    • Added spell checker words

Backup Click this button to create the backup of the selected items in the directory specified. The backup is created as a single ".uec" file.

Restore settings

To restore settings, first enter the path in the Restore from file field. You can use the Browse button to open a file explorer where you can browse to and select the .uec file you wish to restore.

Once the file is selected, you'll see all backed up items appear in the To restore list, grouped as with the To backup list in the Backup tab. You can check which items should be restored, or click the Select all button to check all items.

Once you've checked all items you wish to restore, click the Restore button.
