The sum selection command sums the total of all the numbers that are detected in the selected area (columns or lines) and shows the total in the Total field.
The Ignore character in number option allows you to specify the number format's digit group separator (typically a comma or period; e.g. one thousand may be represented as 1,000) so that this is ignored when totalling the sum.
