UltraEdit / UEStudio support both insert and overstrike modes. You can toggle between insert and overstrike mode using the Insert key on your keyboard.

The mode of operation is indicated in the status bar at the bottom of the main application window. If insert mode is enabled, the status bar will show "INS". If overstrike mode is enabled, the status bar will show "OVR". You can toggle between the two modes by clicking this button in the status bar.

Insert mode causes a key to be inserted into the document at the position of the cursor. Overstrike mode causes the character immediately to the right of the cursor to be overwritten by the new character.

Hex editing is always done in overstrike mode. To insert text in hex mode, use the Hex insert/delete command in the "Hex mode" group in the Edit tab. You can also press Ctrl + D.
